Flight from Barcelona to Rome- The Nightmare of Vueling!

*Note: We haven't had internet access for a while now (since Barcelona to Florence, so I've been writing on Word and uploading the first chance I get!). Pardon! ^.^

Our flight was scheduled for 9:45AM today, so we got up super early at 6am to pack and give us ample time to get to the airport. We originally intended to go by Aerobus (5 euros per person) but a taxi bus magically appeared in front of our hotel at 7:30am! He said it would be about 30 euros for him to get us to the airport, and it’s totally worth the extra 10 euros, as we had A LOT of luggage that we would need to heave up the Aerobus otherwise, not to mention getting to the bus stop and waiting for the shuttle to arrive! Not to mention that he was really cute ~__^. Vueling (a cheap airline) wouldn’t let us check-in online due to some internal computer error, so we waited in line to check-in. Upon checking in, they said our luggage were overweight! 23 kg is the maximum and each one of ours was around 26-27 kg. But duuude, I swear their scale is weighted because at my job, picking up a 50 pound sack of flour is really hard but it wasn’t really all that hard to pick up the luggage! So we had to step aside and remove things from our luggage (lots and lots and lots of cans of foie gras and wine!). We thought to redistribute the wine, and put all the cans of foie gras in our carry-on luggage. Ok, fine, done, that took a while! We were OK’d the second time around on luggage weight, so we go through the security check…. where upon the screener and his manager refused to let us through with all the food! They said we had to go back out the security gates and check in another piece of luggage that carries specifically all the canned foods. Oh good grief! Had Vueling just told us that in the first place, we would have just paid the overweight luggage amount! So Dad & I go back out the security gates to check in the luggage, only to be told that we would be charged 20 euros for the luggage! GRRRRR…. At that point, it was nearing boarding time (and we were there hella early too!), so we just let it go ;( and rushed back through security. Upon getting to the gate, settling down, Vueling announced a freakin’ gate change! THEN they delayed the flight because only one attendant was present to check people in… really??? The only good part of the experience was that my dad had tried to reserve seats for us, but gave up because Vueling’s web site wouldn’t work properly, but somehow they retained our seat preferences, so Angel and I were pulled aside during boarding so they could reassign us to be next to our parents (Vueling charges 5 euros per person for specific seat reservations). So to look on the bright side, we’re thinking of it as us reserving seats together for 20 euros, instead of getting charged 20 euros for a luggage that we were forced to check-in… or to think of it as US airlines charge a whole lot more for the 1st baggage.
